Birds & bees

Hi everyone!  I hope Monday morning is treating you well.  A finish to report this time round….PSS Sergei.  Loved this one, loved the strong colours, loved Sergei himself and it was a fun stitch.  Stitched on 32ct cream Belfast linen and I used the DMC alternatives which I was more than happy with.

(oops, should have trimed the edges before I took the picture!!)

A while back (read that as ages ago!) I won BBD’s Peacock Pinkeep in a giveaway Sally over at Stitchyangel’s Treasures was having.  The one condition of entering the giveaway was that I stitched the chart and, when I was done, that I would pass the chart on with the same conditions.  Well, I’ve finally got my act together and have started this one.  Actually, it’s my second attempt, having started it with my first choice of fabric and threads I wasn’t that happy with how it was turning out.  So, another dive around in my fabric stash and threads and I’m happier this time round.   I’ve gone in a completely different direction to the colours suggested and I’m using good old DMC.  Given that I’ll be attempting the finishing on this one, I wanted something that could cope with likely being ironed within an inch of its life and being mangled by my attempts to put it together and still end up looking okay (hopefully!!).  Silks and hand-dyed fabric were not going to be a good match for that!

 Using 28ct flax linen and DMC 730 & 3777
One other small finish to share.  A quick stitch, Ewe & Eye & Friends Bee Hive Scissor Companion.  I thought it would look cute as a little pillow so spent some time with my sewing machine and this is the result! Another one to add to my small bee collection.

Hope all is well with you and yours and if you are dealing with the extremes of heat in parts of the US I hope that the weather breaks soon.

Until next time…….

Hello Lois! I would love a chance at the Peacock Pinkeep. Please enter my name in. Thank you.
We are suffering extreme heat here in Wisconsin and did have a break in the heat for one day on Saturday. It only got into the upper 80's! It was amazing how that actually felt good. At least it has begun to cool in the evenings.

Very nice stitching and finishing. Sergei looks great in DMC... saved a lot of money and no delicate handling required. Good idea to do the same on the peacock!

Hi Lois, what a handsome "Sergei" you have stitched! He is one of those happy designs that makes me smile every time I see him finished!

Your Sergei is adorable -- I love that piece! Your peacock pinkeep is looking good too -- good luck with the finishing. Love your EEF pillow finish too -- beautifully done! I was so disappointed for Andy yesterday. But what a guy he is. He fought so hard and his speech was -- well, I was crying through the whole thing.

I love Sergei...so bold!! And the change in fabric and threads for the peacock means you'll be much happier as you move along and get ready for putting it together. It's a cute pattern. And I love your little bees!!! xo

Good morning, Lois--just look how busy you've been!! Sergei is majestic looking--and the DMC is wonderful. Can't imagine anything looking any better. I agree with you, finishing your own things when using DMC is so much nicer without worrying about colors bleeding, etc. And your version of the BBD peacock looks fabulous--he'll be a great companion to Sergei :)

Your little pillow is adorable--you're getting quite a collection of beehives there (and I love that plate in the background with the house and crow--so cute!)...

Your Sergei looks wonderful. Congrats on a lovely finish. I just pulled this chart out yesterday but couldn't decide on the fabric. Your's looks great on the light fabric, so I will look at that tonight!

Thanks for the inspiration.

I love your start on the Peacock Pinkeep. I wasn't crazy about the called for colors and didn't have the vision to see it differently until yours. Love your little pillow finish too!

Hi Lois
I love your Sergei. I started him way back in April while on holiday but haven't picked him up since then so I should make an effort to finish him off.

'Sergei' is just wonderful! I love the rich colours that you chose. I agree with you, that whenever you can use a less expensive, nice thread selection, it comes out just as beautifully. Have you ever tried the Sullivan threads? The are Egyptian cotton and very nice too, (with the DMC cost range)

Your Peacock Pin Keep is coming along so nicely, and it will be a treasure when you finish it. Love the cute little beehive scissor fob you so nicely finished too! Wonderful post!

Love your Sergei finish! I just purchased the chart a couple of weeks ago. Your peacock pinkeep and beehive pillow are super cute, too!

Here he is, Sergej, and finished. Such a lovely fellow who sits so proudly on this flower. I must stitch him, too, lol. And I also love my good old DMC threads - they are always in my stash and so I can always start stitching the very moment I have cut my fabric, lol.
